Details: The talk will explore the diagnosis of dementia in older adults, with a focus on understanding "pseudodementia" and its differentials, such as depression, organic illnesses, and psychiatric conditions that can mimic dementia. A structured approach to assessing memory concerns will be discussed, including when to refer patients for specialised testing. Practical guidance on mental capacity assessments, including key components and simplified deputyship procedures, will also be provided. Additionally, we will examine normal cognitive aging trajectories, the concept of cognitive reserve, and individual resilience to brain changes. Actionable strategies for promoting cognitive health and evidence-based interventions for mild cognitive impairment and traumatic brain injury will be highlighted to support prevention, resilience, and recovery.
